Thank you for using our services. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use Stacks. By using our services, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information about your interactions with our services. This information helps us understand how our app is used and how we can improve our services. Non-personal information may include:
- Device Information: Information about the device you use to access our services, such as its model, operating system, and unique device identifiers.
- Usage Data: Information about how you navigate through our app, including time spent on the app.
- Shared Data: URLs and titles of sets you have shared with others.
Sets that you do not share with others will be stored in your iCloud storage. You can access that data from your devices, but we will not see it. We do not collect the URLs of the websites you visit, but we may collect information about what sites you visit. For example, if you read a business article on the New York Times website, we may collect information indicating that nytimes.com was visited. This data is not linked to you; we only know that one of our users accessed the site. We will use this data to retrieve the favicon.
Purpose of Data Collection
We use the information we collect for various purposes to provide and improve our services. Specifically, we may use your information for:
- Service Delivery: To process transactions and provide the services you request.
- Analytics and Improvement: To analyze usage patterns and improve the functionality, performance, and user experience of our website and services.
Machine Learning
We use machine learning technology to enhance Stacks. The following features use machine learning, and data may be shared with third parties:
- Article Summary: First, the structure of the website is analyzed and the text is extracted on your device. For example, when generating a summary of a news site you subscribe to, personal information such as your email address may be included. This text is then sent to Google's Gemini API for summarization.
- Keywords: Similar to the article summary, text is extracted from the website first. Next, the text is searched for keywords using Apple's framework. These processes take place on your device and no one sees them. If you use the Ask AI feature, the keywords you choose will be sent to Google's Gemini API. When you search for a question or selected keywords, that provider will get the keywords you searched for, but not what articles you were looking at. All data communication is encrypted.
- Text-to-Speech: This feature processes data solely on your device using Apple's framework, and no data is sent elsewhere.
- Similar Sites: URLs and titles of added sites are sent to Google's Gemini API.
- Google’s Gemini API: Data is processed on Google's servers according to the Google Data Processing Addendum for Products Where Google is a Data Processor. No human reviewers access the data, and Google does not use it to improve its products. We do not access or store this data. All communication is encrypted.
